To Childcare or Not To Childcare

I was out walking The Moose the other morning and walked past the kids old Childcare centre.  The boys started there when they were babies.  Yes that’s correct, they were babies.  Gonna judge me?

It was 6:30am and there was a Dad dropping off his baby.  The baby was pretty fresh, under 1 for sure and I just thought, Oh you poor bugger – they’re gonna judge you too!

I mean why did you have a baby if you were going to put them in Childcare, surely 6.30 is to early – geez man, how cruel are you?                        WHAT SORT OF PARENT ARE YOU?

I mean, surely he must have a good reason?

Is it that he needs to go to work to support his family and he is using Childcare as an option?  I mean, where is his family – the on call babysitters – oops, maybe Childcare is his only option?

Or maybe his partner is at work at the moment and they will pick up the baby.  Maybe the baby will only be there for a couple of hours – that makes it sound better right? Oh no, what if the baby is at Childcare all day – that’s a bit mean isn’t it?  Again, why did he have a baby if he was going to put them in Childcare – Bloody Hell –

WHAT SORT OF PARENT ARE YOU???

Maybe the kind of parent that uses Childcare because you have to.

Or wait for it,

Maybe the kind of parent that uses Childcare because you have to want to.

Or wait for it,

Maybe the kind of parent that uses Childcare because you have to, you want to and you see the benefits of sending your offspring there knowing that you are leaving your offspring in a safe, caring, educational and loving environment.

But just remember,

We are also the parents that feel guilty sometimes, having to leave our babies at Childcare.  We know that they are in a safe environment and are well taken care of and educated, but sometimes, it’s hard.

We are also the parents that sometimes sit in the car in the car park and cry our eyes out because we have had to hand over our baby that is stressed out and crying.  We then have to try to pull it together to go to work and be a real adult.

We are also the parents that unlike our parents or grandparents, can’t stay at home because we need to go out and earn money to support our family.

Childcare is a choice that as parents we have to make.  It’s hard, it’s scary but it’s what we have to do.  Ah the parental gig is a tough gig I tell ya!

So to Childcare or not to Childcare, that is the question.
